2012 May 1 - FISHING REPORT

As we head into the latter stages of Spring and ready ourselves for another Texas Summer, Adam and I want to remind you of what we believe our specialty is...and that's "FAMILY FISHING FUN"!  We especially enjoy the Summer as the Kids are out of school and there's no better way to spend a Morning than on the lake with a Family that enjoys the outdoors and catchin' a lot of fish. More than half our trips in the Summer are with Kids of all ages and quite a few Adults who think like Kids when it comes to fishing and enjoying God's Creation! We've learned to avoid the Texas heat by getting on the lake early (around 6:30AM) and off before Noon with a full cooler full of fish, a bunch of happy youngsters and some great fish fry material for Supper!

Many folks ask us "How old do Kids have to be before they can go fishing?" I always share that I began taking my Kids out when they were around 4 years old. Sometimes we did more boat riding than fishing, but we always had a great time. Lots of snacks & drinks were always on board and we would normally catch a few fish, ride a bit, drive the boat, and just enjoy the outing. I'm doing the same now with my three Grand boys and Granddaughter (See picture of Reese and Adam on her first trip a month ago catching her first fish!  She's 2 1/2 years old!) Most Kids have to be around 6 years old to really enjoy the experience of catching fish, stay our for the better part of a Half Day trip, and not get bored. But, every child is different and we approach the outing with that in mind. The single most important issue to remember is that you want the Kiddo to have FUN! If the trip goes on too long base on the child's timetable, the child gets bored and then the worst can happen....he/she will not want to go fishing again!

As far as the fishing goes, the Spring has been AWESOME and there's no reason to expect anything different for the Summer! We're about to begin experiencing the "Top Water" bite that RC is known for and that's usually several acres of fish feeding on the surface for the first part of the Morning!  It's something to experience and folks seeing it for the first time can't believe there's that many fish in the lake! We tie on a clear Tiny Torpedo, or just about any shiny bait and catch a fish every cast! Lots of FUN and it's easy making Experts out of Novices! Many first time fishermen and fisherwomen go home telling tales of catching hundreds of fish!!!

If you'd like to get in on this action, give us a call or check us out on the web at www.gonefishin.biz , and get on the calendar. We can normally get you on the Lake on a Weekday with pretty short notice, but our Saturday openings are already few and far between until July. We fish everyday except Sunday and offer Morning and Afternoon trips until it gets too warm to have FUN in the Afternoons.

Thanks and have a great day!

2012 Mar 1 - FISHING REPORT

Spring is here and Lake Richland Chambers is in great shape! The rain we had in January & February raised the Lake level from it's low point of 8 1/2 feet low in December to just a little over 2 feet low at the present time. Here's hoping we get our normal rainfall totals in the March thru May timeframe, and we just might have a full Lake as we enter Summer!

Here's what to expect this Spring:

March.....The White Bass and Hybrid Stripers will be on the 309 Flats and Pelican Island area most mornings and afternoons. Watch for the Gulls and Loons diving on baitfish and have a couple of baits ready to get in on some fast action! ALWAYS, have a Silver or Chartreuse RSR Slab ( www.rsrlures.com ) tied on and ready to drop down to the feeding fish! If you can handle a bait caster and do some casting, try a Swim Bait/Sassy Shad and retrieve it slowly till you find the depth the fish are at. Hold on tight as you just might hook into the fish of a lifetime!

April.....This is the most consistent month for catching Crappie on the spawn. Small Jigs or Minnows fished below a cork in 2' of water can land you a nice mess of these tasty fish! Fish the stickups in the backs of coves and around boathouses. The two coves around Fisherman's Point Marina are great to fish if you don't have a boat and are a bank fisherman! April is AWESOME for White Bass in the Pelican Island area!

May.....The White Bass spawn is over by May and the fish will be on a feeding frenzy to bulk back up after their annual ritual! While most fish will still be caught on Slabs, you'll also need to have a Blue/Chrome Rat-L-Trap or a Lil' George handy to catch some of the surface and just below the surface feeding fish! Check out the South Shoreline from Fisherman's Point to Ferguson Point for early morning activity and the Old Hwy 287 Roadbed for afternoon fishing.

Adam and I will be on the Lake Monday thru Saturday during the Spring. We offer Morning and Afternoon Trips and consider the Spring to be one of the best times of the year to catch both quantity and quality of fish. We hope your schedule allows a trip with us and that we get to fish with you this Spring!

Have a Great Day!
